Our beginning

Every storm has a before.

After Her Storm didn't start with a plan. It started with someone who lived through the storm — and realized no girl should have to navigate it alone.

Founder of After Her Storm

How this started

In 2019, my family became a foster family. For years, we welcomed children into our home — kids who needed stability, love, and space to heal. I learned to love each child who walked through our door, and each one who left took a piece of my heart with them. Through that season, I came to understand that trauma is complex, deeply personal, and impossible to fully comprehend from the outside. The only appropriate response is empathy.

In 2023, someone I knew experienced a traumatic encounter that was beyond their control. The trauma they carried had lasting consequences for them, and for me. I also held my own grief from years of foster care: the repeated weight of separation from children I had come to consider family.

In 2025, I spent seven months in intensive treatment for anorexia. The trauma from that season continues to shape my daily life. I share these experiences not to invite pity, but to be honest: I needed After Her Storm. I needed someone to show me where to turn and how to begin healing. I needed to feel seen and heard.

That is the entire purpose of this organization — that every girl who finds her way here feels exactly that. Seen. Heard. And never alone in her storm.

The path we're walking

Phase One is about laying the foundation — not rushing to scale, but building something that will hold.

1

Listen

Before we build anything, we listen. To girls in crisis. To counselors. To mothers. To the women who survived their own storms and came out the other side.

2

Learn

We study what works — what frameworks, what language, what approaches actually help girls move from surviving to healing to thriving.

3

Connect

We build relationships with the organizations, counselors, shelters, and faith communities already doing this work — so we amplify rather than duplicate.

4

Build

We create the tools, resources, and community infrastructure that will make After Her Storm a real, lasting presence for girls who need it.

5

Serve

We show up — consistently, humbly, and for the long haul. Not as a program, but as a presence.

What we're building toward

After Her Storm is not yet a 501(c)(3). We are in the founding phase — filing, forming, and laying the groundwork for what this organization will become. We are transparent about that because we believe the people who join us now deserve to know exactly where we are.

The vision is a world where no girl faces her storm alone. Where the resources exist, the language is clear, and the community is ready. Where healing is not a luxury but an expectation.

We are not there yet. But we are on our way. And every person who joins us in Phase One is helping build the lighthouse that will guide the way.

"I needed someone to show me who to go to and how to gain healing from my pain. That is what After Her Storm is for."
