Understanding the Problem

The Three Storms

Every girl faces storms. Some rage within her. Some surround her. Some stretch far beyond her reach. Understanding each one is the first step toward healing.

01

The battles she fights inside herself

The Storm Within Her

This is the storm no one else can see. It lives in the way she speaks to herself, the shame she carries quietly, the anxiety that keeps her up at night. The Storm Within Her includes mental health struggles, disordered eating, self-harm, identity confusion, and the relentless inner voice that tells her she is not enough. It is deeply personal — and it is where healing must begin.

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Disordered eating and body image
  • Self-harm and suicidal ideation
  • Shame, guilt, and low self-worth
  • Identity and belonging struggles
02

The environment she is trying to survive

The Storm Around Her

This storm is her circumstances — the home she lives in, the relationships that shape her, the community that either holds her or fails her. The Storm Around Her includes family trauma, abuse, neglect, toxic relationships, and the systems that were supposed to protect her but did not. She did not choose this storm. But she is living in it.

  • Family instability and dysfunction
  • Abuse — physical, emotional, sexual
  • Neglect and abandonment
  • Toxic or dangerous relationships
  • Foster care and housing instability
03

The forces in the world working against her

The Storm Beyond Her

This storm is systemic. It is the exploitation, trafficking, and injustice that target vulnerable girls. It is the cultural messages that reduce her worth to her appearance or compliance. It is the gaps in systems that leave her without resources, advocates, or a voice. The Storm Beyond Her is not her fault — but it is her reality, and it demands a response.

  • Human trafficking and exploitation
  • Systemic injustice and inequality
  • Harmful cultural and media messaging
  • Gaps in social services and support
  • Poverty and lack of access to resources

Our Framework

CALM

After Her Storm responds to each storm through a four-part framework. CALM is not a program — it is a posture. It is how we show up for every girl, in every storm.

CConnect

Before anything else, we connect. We show up — consistently, without conditions — so that every girl knows she is not navigating her storm alone. Connection is the foundation of every other step.

AAdvocate

We speak up and stand alongside. Advocacy means fighting for access to resources, navigating systems on her behalf, and refusing to let her be overlooked or silenced. Every girl deserves someone in her corner.

LLift

We invest in her healing and her future. Lifting means equipping her with tools, skills, and opportunities — not to fix her, but to walk with her as she rises. We believe in her capacity to rebuild.

MMinister

We care for the whole person. Ministering means tending to her spiritual, emotional, and relational needs with gentleness and without agenda. We meet her where she is — and we stay.

"No storm is too far gone. No girl is too broken. CALM is how we begin."
